He runs around the house turning lights on. As they chat, the thieves return and Finn hear's Sinclair's heavy footsteps outside, believing that it's a ghost. While online, Finn meets Simon, a young man who spends most of his time gaming. Unaware that his sister is trapped, Finn goes back to his video game upstairs. But after scaring Finn out of the room, Alexis accidentally activates a trap which locks her in the room. They then discover a secret room accessed through the back of the safe with the painting that Sinclair was looking for. Finn and his sister, Alexis go down into the basement and find the safe, which had been left unlocked from earlier. When the game controller Finn is using runs out of batteries, he gets new ones, but accidentally drops one battery down the basement steps. However, a snowstorm that gets progressively worse results in the roads leading down the mountain closing, forces the parents to stay at the party.įinn wreaks havoc throughout the house before violating his mother's rule of not playing video games while his parents are at the party. Fed up, she decides to leave them home alone while she and her husband attend the party. Baxter and her husband prepare to go to the Christmas party arranged by her new boss and discover that her kids aren't ready yet Finn is more focused on video games and Alexis on her cell phone. As Sinclair leaves, he notices an invitation the Baxters received for a Christmas party and plans to return while the family is at the party. However, before they could locate the painting, the family returns and the thieves are forced to flee. While the family is out shopping the next day, the thieves break into the house finding a hidden safe in the basement. Sinclair mentions the painting they are looking for is called The Widow by Edvard Munch, a portrait of his great grandmother and family which was stolen over a hundred years ago.

Meanwhile, the house is being targeted by three thieves - Sinclair, Jessica, and Hughes, who plan to steal a valuable painting that's hidden inside. Shortly upon arrival, Finn befriends a neighbor kid, Mason, who tells him about the legend of the ghost which haunts the house that Finn's family is moving into. Finn and his older sister, Alexis, are obsessed with technology, and refuse to do anything with their parents or socialize with anyone else. Profanity includes "ass," "bitch," "damn," "hell," and "s-t.Ten-year old Finn Baxter and his family move from California to Maine and settle into their new home. He finds an issue of Playboy in a secret stash in his older brother's room but doesn't express much interest in it. Kevin also is shown watching a violent gangster movie that his parents have forbidden him from seeing. The main character inflicts serious pain on two would-be burglars - he trips them down a flight of stairs, burns them, hits them with heavy objects, places sharp objects on the ground for them to step on, and so on. There's a tremendous amount of slapstick violence in this movie, some of which results in very painful-looking injuries. The parents themselves don't exactly emerge as positive role models, but then again, if they had been more mindful, the entire premise of the movie would be shot.

On his end, Kevin has absolutely no problem talking back to his mother. Adults speak of "nude beaches," and young Kevin is called a "disease" and "puke" by his older siblings and even a "little jerk" by his uncle.

What might be shocking to parents who haven't seen this movie since it first came out is the level of disrespect between kids and adults and the amount of sibling name-calling early in the movie. Parents need to know that Home Alone is a hit 1990 John Hughes-directed comedy in which Macaulay Culkin plays a young boy left to fend for himself when his parents, overwhelmed by having to keep track of 11 other kids, mistakenly leave him behind when they fly to Paris.
